THE MYSTERY OF THE ABSTRACT

Unlike “Queen Henrietta” by Sir Peter Lely with solid provenance, one of the works of art we are presenting during our upcoming auction is raising a lot of questions.  It is an abstract that one would look at and say “it is a Jackson Pollock”, but the name signed on it is “Richter”.

We have heard several stories about this painting including that it was a bitter Jackson Pollak who was questioned about rising artist Gerard Richter, who painted the piece and then signed it “Richter” saying “it is now a great work of art!”.   This piece could make it one of the most valuable art auctions we have presented.

What we do know:

  • The work is done on a burlap canvas.

  • The paint is both acrylic and oil.

  • It is signed on the lower right “Richter”.

  • It will be presented at our Paintings, Prints, & Photographs Auction on Sunday, December 28th, 2019.

Our associates preform leading art research and the items we present are gaurenteed as stated in the description.
