WHY IS THE ALEX SHEAR COLLECTION VALUABLE?
The monetary value is based on the contents and rarity of the collection. After four decades of being involved in this industry I personally have never seen many of these items, and after a preliminary evaluation, have found that several have never been offered to the collectors.
The emotional value is priceless.
WHO IS ALEX SHEAR?
Alex Shear was considered to be the ultimate collector of Americana, Ketch, and Anti-Establishment items. He amassed a collection of over 100,000 pieces - considered to be the world's largest collection of its type in private hands. He acquired pieces for his collection not based on monetary value but on cultural value. His passion for one-of-a-kind, to unique designs, to offbeat, to politically incorrect, and art with a purpose. He viewed the value of an object based on its impact on society and the potential cultural shift attributed to the period. Alex Shear died after being struck by a tour bus in Manhattan in 2014 while developing the museum.
